About the trip

On Thursday Jan. 16 the “We Believe Inaugural Bus” pulled out from Everett and Jones in  Oakland headed to Washington, D.C. We were on our way to the Inaugural celebration of the first African American President.

The trip is a collaboration between the Post News Group and the owners of Everett and Jones Barbeque to honor their mother, the late Mrs. Dorothy Turner-Everett.

We’re hoping to bring the struggle and legacy of Oakland to a national audience by honoring Rosa Park’s and Martin Luther King’s bus boycott that began the civic rights movement in 1955.

There’s media and citizen journalists from several other institutions along for the ride, including the Globe, San Francisco Chronicle and ABC.

We’ll be uploading YouTube videos of the trip along with photographs and commentary.  Stay Tuned!
